Former Super Eagles coach Samson Siasia has spoken out to the help of the current Nigeian chief coach, Stephen Keshi.
Siasia
who was in charge of the Super Eagles team that defeated Argentina 4-1
in an international friendly played at the Abuja National stadium in
June 2011 has disclosed that it was determination that helped the Eagles
team beat Argentina.
That victory was Nigeria's
first over the Argentinians in 5 meetings at that time, Siasia admitted
that he was not confident Nigeria could beat the South Americans with as
much goals as they did.
The current Nigerian frontman at the 2014 FIFA World Cup Emmanuel Emenike scored the last goal in that game.
“Argentina
believed they will come to Nigeria and beat us again. I wasn’t even
really sure we could beat them. But on the day we played so well and
scored some great goals.
“We were so determined to get our pound of flesh and we got it.”
Argentina avenged the Abuja defeat three months later in Dhaka, Bangladesh where they beat Nigeria 3-1.
To that Siasia recalls: “It was a good game but we made a lot of mistakes, players were keeping the ball for too long and Messi was dribbling everybody.
“We also had our chances to tie the game but did not take them.”
Nigeria
play their bitter World Cup foes for a record 7 times with 4 of them
been FIFA organized competitions, on Wednesday. The Stephen Keshi led
team will hope to overcome a 5th defeat in the hands of Alejandro
Sabella Argentinian side.
