Gerrard sealed an 18 month deal move to MLS side, LA Galaxybut will only be leaving Anfield at the end of the current season
After sealing an 18 month loan deal with MLS
side, LA Galaxy; ending an 17 years stay with Liverppol, Steven Gerrard
has indicated a return to the club he joined a s a youngster but on a
loan spell.
Gerrard only has to join LA after the
end of the current campaign and with the the MLS season running only
from March to December, the 34 year-old would be set on a return to his
former club.
"The way the season works in the
MLS there's a break around winter time. What I can say is that I'd love
to be able to come back and train with the lads to keep my fitness
levels up.
"Whether that could lead to
playing for the club again I don't know. That wouldn't be my decision.
You'd have to ask others that question."
His new employers say they are yet to discuss a loan matter but not ruling it out.
"Gerrard's focus will be LA Galaxy," Galaxy president Chris Klein told BBC
"Signing Steven ranks right up there and we're very excited about it," said Klein. "The attention it has created has been incredible. He's a worldwide name and people are very excited."
"He
is in a position where his football is world-class. His touch, vision
and control and what he will do for the football team is incredible,’’ Klein added.
Should
the loan move pull through, Gerrard would only be one of three player
who played the English topflight and then moving to the MLS, who’d later
be allowed to play outside the club during the off-seasons.
He has already been accepted in LA with Lakers pointman, Kobe Bryant declaring his fanship for the player
"What can I say? Welcome to LA LA land."I'm looking forward to getting out there and watching you do your thing. I've been a fan of yours for a long, long time," Bryant said
